Q.7 ~ How many times did the AREST Community Responders attend 999 emergency calls? A.7 ~ The AREST responders team have attended well over 8,000 emergency '999' calls since its inception 2005.Q.8 ~ What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest? A.8 ~ This is a condition where the heart stops beating abruptly, usually caused by ventricular fibrillation (VF). Blood stops flowing to the brain.Q.9 ~ Is Sudden Cardiac Arrest the same as a heart attack? A.9 ~ No. A heart attack is where a blood clot blocks a coronary artery resulting in the death of the heart muscle supplied by that artery. Many people survive heart attacks. Other people have SCA independently from a heart attack without warning signs and SCA results in death if not treated immediately.Q.10 ~ Can a patient be harmed with a defibrillator (AED)? A.10 ~ No. Most SCA victims will die if they are not treated immediately. Using a defibrillator can only help.

F.A.Q. ~ about Community First RespondersQ.1 ~ How much does a Community Responder get paid? A.1 ~ Community Responders are volunteer members of the community. They give their time free of any charges.Q.2 ~ How much time and commitment do I need to make to the Service? A.2 ~ AResT asks its volunteers to commit to at least 12hrs per week towards the overall Community Response effort.Q.3 ~ Do I need a car or transport ~ do I get the use of a vehicle? A.3 ~ You must have access to a car and be able to attend emergency . calls from either your home or place of work in Ovingdean, Rottingdean, Saltdean, Telscombe Cliffs, Peacehaven.Q.4 ~ Am I too young to become a Community Responder? A. 4 ~ Volunteer responders can be male or female and aged 18yrs+.Q.5 ~ Do I need prior knowledge of First Aid to volunteer as a Responder? A. 5 ~ A basic understanding of First Aid is a requirement. Q.6 ~ Do we replace an ambulance at the scene of an emergency? A.6 ~ No - we do not replace an Ambulance - We work along side the . South East Coast Ambulance Service.
