A.7 ~ The AREST responders team have attended well over 8,000 emergency '999' calls since its inception 2005.Q.8 ~ What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest? A.8 ~ This is a condition where the heart stops beating abruptly, usually caused by ventricular fibrillation (VF). Blood stops flowing to the brain.Q.9 ~ Is Sudden Cardiac Arrest the same as a heart attack? A.9 ~ No. A heart attack is where a blood clot blocks a coronary artery resulting in the death of the heart muscle supplied by that artery. Many people survive heart attacks. Other people have SCA independently from a heart attack without warning signs and SCA results in death if not treated immediately.Q.10 ~ Can a patient be harmed with a defibrillator (AED)? A.10 ~ No. Most SCA victims will die if they are not treated immediately. Using a defibrillator can only help. They give their time free of any charges.Q.2 ~ How much time and commitment do I need to make to the Service? A.2 ~ AResT asks its volunteers to commit to at least 12hrs per week towards the overall Community Response effort.Q.3 ~ Do I need a car or transport ~ do I get the use of a vehicle?
